Okay, all you self-identified Pony Cousins out there!
You say that you want to ride with the Pony Cousins?!
Well, it is time to saddle up!
Well, it is time to saddle up!
You are all invited to the "Hypothetical Pony Cousin Stampede"!
Yee Haw!
You and your pony have a lot of work ahead of you.
Read carefully, this is important.
You need to gather up everything that you and your favorite pony
are going to need for this ride with the Pony Cousins.
And, remember, the Pony Cousins ride with flair!
You will need riding costumes, bling for you, and bling for that special pony of yours.
In fact, I am going to list the Stampede Events;
and, you get to pick out the ones that would be the most fun for you.
There will be trail rides, costume events,
arena games, and much celebration.
The Pony Cousins root for every rider and every pony, despite the outcome.
Remember, i said, "select the events that would be the most fun";
not the ones at which you think you would do the best.
The events at this stampede are for fun.
The "Howdy Trail Ride."
You will want to sparkle and shine on the very first ride of the Stampede.
It will take place in the morning, right after you have had your fill
of the PC Chuckwagon's freshly baked scones (the ones with raspberries in them).
This will be a 2 and 1/2 hour trail ride in the backcountry.
The trail has a bit of a short climb at the beginning,
but is an easy one to start out on.
Riders should watch for elk, wild turkeys, and tree limbs.
Your western wear for the Howdy Trail Ride is color-coordinated
with the saddle blanket for your pony.
We dont all have really flashy horses,
like PC The Divine Ms C;
but when challenged by this situation,
PC The Divine Ms C advises, "Accessorize!"
So this is where the Pony Cousins add bling: silver and silver conchos, brass and gold tones; depending on your taste and the color of your pony.
I happened onto a good deal for a black saddle blanket that has silver trim.
Okie then wears the bridle with the silver ferrule and matching breast collar.
However, this is a trail ride, so we save the silver ferrule for later
and opt on the dark oil leather bridle with the silver "Texas star" conchos
and matching breast collar.
My hat or helmet is the same dark brown as the leather bridle,
the breast collar, and my boots.
My Okie does not need or appreciate spurs,
but if i did wear them, i do have the spurs to match the bridle and breast collar.
I top things off with a brightly colored scarf, Texas size, that i picked up from "Gladrags."
My jewelry is the silver and bling "Texas star" earrings and scarf slide, with this outfit.
PC The Desert Rose and PC Pony Girl have really gorgeous chinks (or chaps) to wear
and their ponies, Jesse and My Boy will wear matching tack, as well.
In fact, The Desert Rose is known to loan out her extra chinks to drooling Pony Cousins,
and perhaps a fancy pair would be loaned to Mrs Mom and Sonny
and to Grey Horse Matters and Nate.
Just pick your colors, Cousins, PC Desert Rose has 'em!
You wont need much in your saddle bag for this short ride, really, just a few comforts and necessities. And Leah, Jenn, and kd know i am not talking about bandaids.
In fact, kids, there is a nifty little mixture called the "Bailey's Kick-in-the-Butt Starter Latte." Here's your recipe of the day, a little Public Service that i do:
In a tall travel coffee cup (22 ounces will do it), combine the following:
Kahlua, Bailey's, Royal Crown (or other smooth whiskey);
top it off with a splash of diet coke.
Trial and error will help you figure the proportions that are right for you.
This can be a hot drink or a cold drink to take along on the trail.
It will help to have the ingredients handy to throw together before mounting up for the ride.
I like to have my Okie all saddled and ready to go;
then i have PC Palomino Girl hold onto his reins
while i sashay to the rear of the Suburban to fill the coffee cups of those Pony Cousins
who say they need a "kick-in-the-butt."
With the assistance of just one other PC,
this is done in a matter of less than 5 minutes.
Thusly mounted, the Pony Cousins line up for the trail ride.
For this particular ride, we have designated the lead ponies to be
...PC Cowgirl2 riding Dusty; followed by:
...Mikey and her pony, Desi
...Stephanie and her pony, Patrick
On the "Howdy Trail Ride," the Pony Cousins give an award to the "Best Butts To Follow."
The selection is made after considering trail manners, trail skill,
and, of course, the quality of the Pony and Cousin Butt.
There are also points given for "Couture" in every event of the Stampede.
The Pony Cousin and their Pony accrue points in each of those events,
which are added together to determine a trophy winner at the end of the Stampede.
Watch for further adventures at the Pony Cousin Stampede in future blogs!

I might have to bring both my ponies, since one of them is schizophrenic, and you never know which side of him you'll see. Poco's manners with the ladies are still in question, so I don't know yet how he'd act with his face in a girl's butt ;-) Jaz might be the better choice on a trail ride. I think I'd like to try Poco in some of the arena games.
I would have to do a serious amount of shopping -- I'm usually a pretty slovenly rider.
And I noticed one thing missing from that fab sounding latte -- actual COFFEE, which I consume with as much gusto as alcohol.
Ooh, Sunny and I are there. I think we can just about manage the color coordination, although sadly, I think my pony has better bling than I do.
I'll probably have to pass on the high octane "coffee" since I have no tolerance and don't want to have to be assisted onto my horse (or end up underneath him involuntarily!). But I'll happily contribute some tasty cranberry muffin tops for breakfast and trail-tested, saddlebag-proof molasses cookies for munching on the trail. And I'll even share my binoculars in case anyone spots any far off wildlife :)
My ponies are flashy, but alas, I am never coordinated or "blingified". You will find me one ride with tall western boots, the next with half chaps. I have however, lusted after Ponygirl's chaps. I wear an ever lovely bobble head helmet no matter how I'm dressed or who I ride with. (I've learned to take the ribbing with a grin). I will however appreciate the trouble that others take to accesorize and compliment you accordingly. SMR- if we can decaf that morning latte - I'm in !
I'd love to go on the trail ride. That latte sounds great for starters! Believe it or not I do have chaps,but I will have to leave Nate home(since he is my daughters 17'3 hand monster) and take Dusty my little 15'1 palomino quarter horse, she's just great on trails and talk about bling, she loves it I should have called her Marilyn Monroe!
I don't have chinks, but I have dark purple half-chaps and everything on my pony is color-coordinated...have purple and gold, will travel (with a few extra necessities in the saddle bag, of course!)
I have plenty of bling. The DOR can clean up pretty good and I think we can coordinate our colors. I will have to convince her to buy a pair of chinks, right now she only owns a pair of black motorcycle chaps.
The DOR has a pretty wicked hat that a shaman gave her when she left the rez, beaded with a buch of fetishes on it, maybe she will wear that and not a helmet.
Ooooohhhh...sounds like fun, but remember, I have to spend a lot of money on that education of mine, so I may not look so hot out there on the trail...lol!!!
Now about that latte.....
Okay darlin!
May I wear my english saddle over a FANTASTIC western Balnket??
Drink to that one!
hay hay!
Is there a-way,ahy?
For me to say," hay hay"-
to the cousin named
Queen of Hearts,
would you say say?
