The Pony Cousins ride with flair!
What fun to dress up our ponies and ourselves in costumes to go riding!
At the first Pony Cousin Stampede, we found lots of ways to have fun,
and one thing that we tried to do,
even though the weather made it difficult,
was to ride in costume.
Here's what we did:
Indians Gather Around the Teepee.
A popular dress-up for the Pony Cousins, was the Indian costume.
This Indian looks fabulous in her coordinated turquoise outfit.
This Indian maiden must have been a "white" captive,or,
a real Indian who found a bottle of peroxide.
This young Indian maiden looks delicious in her red backless tank top.Note the leather pouch on her saddle and the fringed stirrup covers.
The crème de la crème: a real headdress and a short skirt. The all-around favorite.
Saloon girls and Drovers
Brave Pony Cousins wore skirts and strapless tank tops on a trail ride.
Pretty in Pink
The Pony Cousins dedicated a trail ride to Breast Cancer Awareness.
The ponies did their best to wear the brightest of pink accessories. And we think that they look mighty handsome.

SMR and Palomino Girl really decked out their ponies.
But Pony Cousin Missi even found pink contest ribbons to show off on Zoe.

Okie and his "devil-may-care" lookand his hot pink and metallic accessories.
The Pony Cousins selected pink tees and tanks to decorate with the Pony Cousin logo.
Yes, the back does say, "Untamed and Unashamed."(What can i say? - We are wild-at-heart Cousins.)
For the sake of classy couture,we probably shouldn't show this photo of the Pony Cousins
wearing their shorts and cowgirl boots.
But i think it is a sign that we spend too much time in the barn.
I wish that i had pictures of the costumes we wore for the routines to music!
-Bronco Betsy wore a flowing skirt with an off-the shoulder top.
I remember the light green material fluttering beautifully in the breeze
as Zoe did her moves.
The Desert Rose was bright and daring in her red and black western wear.
Her red chinks were amazing
and when Jesse zipped along the fence line in his routine,
the whole outfit was a blur of bright color.
SMR and Okie did a routine to "Pinball Wizard" and wore black and silver.
SMR actually hauled out the sewing machine to make a silver metallic vest for herself
and a hip drop for Okie.
Okie's headstall and breastcollar were a match
in black leather and silver ferrule beads.
With my grey helmet, we looked like pinballs.
Pony Girl was cute as a button in her outfit;
her western shirt tied in a knot at her waist,
her cowgirl hat tipped back just a bit from her face,
and a lot of bling on her western belt.
As you all know,

Atticus: a perfect example of how some Cousins could
throw on a flannel bath robe and win the "Best Looking Contest".
(It's not fair: some of us have to work mighty hard
to make ourselves and our homely ponies look good.)
For the upcoming Stampede,
the Pony Cousins may not have as many dress-up events.
But we voted that we do want to have the Pink Pony Ride again.
But what should we do for another costumed ride?
We have done cowgirls, saloon girls, and Indians.
We need ideas for easy-to-assemble costumes
for our ponies and ourselves.
Do you have any ideas for us?
Is there something you have done or seen in a costume
that you could share with us?
Please leave a comment if you have ideas for the Pony Cousins.

That's a hard one, you've already done such good ones. The only thing I can come up with: some sort of theme like rodeo cowgirls, pioneer woman(think bonnets/little house on the prairie), cattle drovers,Annie Oakley types(lots of fringe) etc... That's it for me I'm done thinking for today.
That is tough - I'm sure one of the pony cousins will think of something good!
You guys must have had a riot at your event last year! I wish I had a big horsey family to do stuff with!!!
Yes, we sure had fun didn't we SMR.
I son the 2nd place ribbon for Cowgirl Couture!!!
xoxo
Ok Cuz K, that last picture, we are NOT doing that one!
I agree, very simple, last years temps were in the hundreds! So something simple....again, NOT the last one! How 'bout a swimsuit? Just kiddin'! Although I do remember one pony cousin strippin' down to her bra on one ride! Clue: (just in case no one else noticed) she who rode MY painted pony!
What fun you Pony Cousins have had. A couple of years ago I went on 'Wild Womens Ride' with the John Wayne Riders and that was fun althugh not costumed. Hey, how about polka dots. LOL!!
I had to put down my beloved mare--Gallant Ambush--I have a pice of her below my last entry.
I had kinda a memorial to her when she died so I am not going to do that again.
Thanks for visiting my blog while I am having serbver problems and can't always return comments. MB
GHM: I like your idea of Rodeo Queen Costumes! OOOOh and fringe! with bling! Thanks.
Laura: we did have a riot - at least 2 riots! My Pony Cousins would have fun anywhere!
Dusty: You did win 2nd for some very cute costumes. But, now that i think of it, you probably got it because your pony is so pretty.
Paint Girl: You dont care for the "Cowhide Cowgirl"? Honey, You are one of the few PCs who would look good in it!
SCS: I am so sorry to hear about your sweet mare. Most of us know about what you're feeling. So sorry for your loss.
Hmmmmm....I will have to think about this........
You girls are just the best! :)
I wish that I could join ya', but I would definitely have to buy more bling bling...lol!!!
Love the pictures, can't wait until the next stampede! Love you, A cowgirls grace
I think it's time for an African Stampede!
Can't wait to put together outfits for next year! :) That was fun....at the last moment I wanted to be more creative. Except it was too dang hot to want to dress up, LOL! 104 degrees...not good for costumes!
Congratulations! I'm passing along the Honest Scrap Award. You'll find it here.
What fun you guys have! Love the pictures :)
Something for you at Life on the Farm!
Well Pony Cousins...you just gotta cowgril the $%^&* up and use that good family noggin you were born with! We could dress, south of the Border, We could dress outlaw/bandita, we could dress circus pony style, and as a treat for all of us, Cuz C could be LADY GODIVA!!!
I never run out of costume ideas!
Where are the pony cousins??? Miss our updates!
I love the idea of Rodeo Queens!Or maybe a tribute to certain colors or prints (like animal, meow) or even the great state of Texas, lol!
